A Shared Goal
From the very beginning, Ekohunters has defended values and principles that although they are nothing new, they more than ever absolutely essential for the development of today’s society: sustainability and respect for the environment. That is, to protect the planet and its natural biodiversity.
We are well aware that there are practically no activities that do not in a way or another interfere with the environment. That means, even Ekohunters is in a way responsible for this deterioration. However, this is not something we should deny, hide, or forget about; instead we commit to taking the necessary steps to restore environmental balance.
To solve this problem and to contribute to the general improvement of the planet has been, is and will be one of our main objectives. Our motto, «inspiring changes» certainly starts at home, showing by example that it is through change and strong values that we can become more sustainable. Combining responsible development and respect for the environment, and trying to connect people with nature, has proved vital for survival.
But we wanted to go one step further in our commitment to protecting the environment, and contributing to the fight against global warming and climate change. With this goal in mind, we have partnered with the One Tree Planted project and we want you to know more about it.
One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization that works worldwide in collaboration with various reforestation partners with the mission to make it easier for people to help the environment. And in this challenge, Ekohunters is committing to plant a tree for every product we sell, together with all of you willing to get involved.
We are not talking about a commercial or marketing move. It is a partial compensation of the carbon footprint we emit, and also our response to the need to protect the environment, fight climate change and protect biodiversity. But maybe even more importantly, this project aims to raise the awareness of our consumers towards the importance of their commitment and responsible consumption.
Each tree planted is more than just a nice gesture. Recent studies carried out on the subject («Enrique Figueroa, Seville 2007») on the benefits of wooded areas for the planet, state that trees are fundamentally the «lungs» that keeps our environment clean and healthy. Therein lays, the importance of conserving forests and jungles, of reforesting stripped land, and of encouraging wooded areas in urban contexts.
This can be better understood with some data from the study: The roughly 200,000 square kilometres of forest that currently exist in Spain absorb around 48 million tons of CO2, or 13% of our total emissions.
It is estimated that one square kilometre of forest generates 1,000 tons of oxygen per year, one hectare of urban woodland produces the oxygen consumed by six people a day, and that a 20-year-old tree absorbs the CO2 emitted by a vehicle that travels 10,000 to 20,000 kilometres in one year.
As explained by One Tree Planted – Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide habitat for more than 80% of the world’s biodiversity. Forests employ more than 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere and are the key ingredient in a quarter of all medicines.
With reforestation projects in North America, Africa, Latin America and Asia, One Tree Planted is working to restore our natural wealth and help communities around the world not only enhance their environment and biodiversity, but also create jobs and build communities. Because respecting and valuing the environment is guaranteeing our present and work towards a sustainable future.
Given our lifestyle, it is now more necessary than ever to raise awareness of the importance of wooded areas, forests, and trees for our lives. At Ekohunters we know it and we want to share this initiative with you, an initiative of commitment to our present and future, and to our planet.
Don’t forget, a small gesture can go a long way and Ekohunters and One Tree Planted want to help you make your commitment translate into action. To make your purchase count. ONE PRODUCT, ONE TREE. Because we must protect our greatest asset: our planet, our home.
