Description

A.Schulman is a leader in the plastics industry specialising in the colouring of polyethylene. During the production process, the plastic is reduced to powder for better packaging and circulates through various channels that can retain traces of previous plastics. To ensure perfect colour, the factory systematically discards the first 100 kilos of each production run. This safety margin generates up to 10 tonnes of waste per month. In our workshops, this powder is fed into a machine that transforms it into liquid plastic spaghetti. A one-sided mould collects the molten material, contrasting a controlled and comfortable inner surface with an irregular outer surface that bears the history of its manufacturing process. This is how the Gravene 6.7 armchair with wooden legs is created. The barrel company NT Bois uses exceptional oak from the forests planted by Colbert to make its barrels. During the edging process, some parts, too thin to be used as staves, end up as firewood. The base of the Gravêne 5.5 has been designed to fit into these small cuttings and save these pieces of bicentennial oak.
