A.Schulman is a leader in the plastics industry specialising in the colouring of polyethylene. During the production process, the plastic is reduced to powder for better packaging and circulates through various channels that can retain traces of previous plastics. To ensure perfect colour, the factory systematically discards the first 100 kilos of each production run. This safety margin generates up to 10 tonnes of waste per month. In our workshops, this powder is fed into a machine that transforms it into liquid plastic spaghetti. A one-sided mould collects the molten material, contrasting a controlled and comfortable inner surface with an irregular outer surface that bears the history of its manufacturing process. This is how the Gravene 7.5 armchair with metal legs is created. The cutting of tubes in industrial locksmiths systematically generates offcuts, often too short to be sold. Their dimensions are perfect for making a seat leg. They are then powder-coated and crimped onto a plastic plate, making the Gravêne as comfortable on the outside as it is on the inside.
