10 Ecodesigned brands to watch out for

Twice a year Paris becomes home to the latest products, brightest designers, most inspirational workshops, and an endless source of creative energy and talent for no less that five consecutive days.

With almost 3000 exhibitors from over 60 different countries and a total of over 78.000 unique visitors (data from the September 2017 edition) Maison&Objet Paris is an indispensable stop in the furniture fair circuit.

Maison & Objet aims attracts a wide range of professionals within the design community: key players, industry experts and solution providers that unite analyze, improve and learn from the emotional, creative and commercial aspects of the design, home decor and lifestyle sectors.

The show is inspired by all things home, offering a diversity of brands, designers and products, from furniture and lighting to decor, linen and even fragrances. We have lined up 10 brands – including our very own Reine Mere and It’s About Romi – that not only focus on quality and aesthetics, but also have a clear social and environmental commitment.

1. La Petite Papeterie Française

A brand for lovers of all things paper created in 2012 by Sylvie Bétard. A step away from the hurry and the speed of modern-life in the hopes of introducing a new business model: the slow office. Beautiful, high-quality products manufactured in an environmentally and
socially friendly manner.

2. Lovi

Lovi is a family run company based in Finland, that creates wonderful 3D wooden figures designed and patented by Anne Paso. Their easy to assemble products are made in Finland, produced from high-quality, PEFC-certified Finnish birch plywood; and are shipped flat-packed.

3. Handed By

Handmade woven baskets, bags and other home accessories, made from bamboo and recycled plastic.

4. Bandit Manchot

A unique collection of bright colored accessories, decor and stationery pieces made from upcycled high quality leather discarded by the luxury product industry. A second life for this noble material, ethically manufactured and 100% free of child labor.

5. Main Sauvage

French brand of soft toys and kid’s accessories inspired by Nordic style and tradition. Made from baby alpaca wool in a wide range of natural shades, their creations are soft, cozy and free of artificial dyes. All of their toys are hand knitted and stuffed in Bolivia by a Fair Trade Cooperative, resulting on a ecofriendly process that supports small local businesses and helps preserve traditional skills.

6. Aniza

A sophisticated combination of ancestral craftmanship and modern design. European fabrics produced locally and respectful with the environment, and Mexican artisan textiles crafted by artisans across the country,
preserving their textile cultural heritage. Aniza collaborates with
Semillas, a non-profit association supporting women rights.

7. Best Before…

Furniture and lighting collections made with natural, biodegradable and environmentally friendly materials. All the pieces designed by Corinne Muller and Piotr Oleszkowicz are handmade by expert craftspeople perpetuating ancestral traditions.

8. Tensira

Linen, home and lifestyle accessories made of natural cotton fabrics, spun, woven and dyed manually in their workshops in West Africa. Their products are filled with Kapok, a 100% natural fiber and dyed with vegetal indigo dye. Sustainable commitment and vocation to develop the professional activity of West African craft communities.

9. Reine Mère

French brand specializing in products that care for both human beings and the environment. 100% made in France, they offer sustainable design, and they implement their commitment through the whole life of the object, from the creation process, to choice of locally sourced materials, to the end of life.

 10. It’s About Romi

Based along the oldest canal in Amsterdam, they have been creating home and lighting accessories sin 1993, getting their inspiration from nature and city life. Simple and strong design, made from pure, natural, sustainable materials. They collaborate with the WakaWaka Foundation, who provide solar lamps to people in need throughout the world.
