The original products of DVELAS give a second life to the materials that are discarded by the sail manufacturing industry, by bringing together the durability and resistance of the materials with a creative and innovative design, inspired in the manufacturing techniques of the professional sail makers.
Recycled sails are the sustainable material from which a wide variety of products come to live; with only a limited number of pieces obtained from each sail. Each creation is labeled with the information of origin of the sail: its home port, the ship to which they belonged, the original manufacturer, what kind of sail it was and the original numbering.
All the products of DVELAS treasure a piece of history of the material with which they are made, but some of them also have the privilege of some very special aesthetic qualities: small marks fro their previous uses, manufacturer logos or colors, and a number of peculiarities that make these creations unique.
This entrepreneurial architect and curious spirit from San Sebastian is the founder of DVELAS, contemporary ecodesigned furniture company.
Thanks to his talent, Kahle achieves to explore the potential of materials' that are very familiar to us, at the same time as giving them new utilities and encouraging them to behave in unknown ways. He brings the sea breeze and the sound of waves into our living room and gives a new second live to the sails.
His work is backed by recognitions in the world of design and architecture, including the A'Design Award in Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design category, in 2012; The Design Accesit 2013 by the Official Basque-Navarrese Architects Association (COAVN), for DVELAS furniture collection; and his finalist position for the Premi Catalunya d'Ecodisseny, in 2015.
