Upcycling, circular economy and sustainability
More Circular’s mission is to develop and commercialize products that transform waste into valuable pieces for your home, moving us from our current linear ‘take, make, waste’ economy to a circular ‘retake, remake, restore’ economy.
Marten van Leeuwen, the man behind More Circular, was born in the Netherlands and grew up on beautiful Coromandel, in the North Island of New Zealand.
After moving back to Europe and working several mechanical engineering jobs, he ended up in Amsterdam working on a waste to energy plant for four years.
The constant coming and going of trucks bringing waste from the city inspired him to find new ways to move away from our linear society.
Putting his engineering skills to good use and with the environment always in mind, he started creating his first designs and so More Circular was born!
Construction results in a huge amount of leftover materials. Most of these are lost to landfill or incineration, plaster however, can be endlessly recycled by a process called calcination.
At More Circular they have developed a process to take plaster out of the waste line and gave it its value back. Local plasterers provide their left over plaster (which at the same time saves them disposal costs) which is later processed in their small factory and turned into the raw material for the Archy lamps.
Have a look at the behind the scenes of the Archy creation process!
