Vea
Vea means vein in Galician, and they work so that the result, the play of veins, shapes and colors, are fully identified with your personality, with your space, with your way.
In January 2017, hurricane winds ravaged the interior of Galicia, uprooting and throwing hundreds of trees. This catastrophe inspired its founder to create VEA, turning the fallen trees into beautiful, unique, sustainable and eco-friendly tables. It is Galicia, home of designer and architect Alfonso Cort, the source of its raw material, wood.
Touring the affected areas and acquiring from the inhabitants of different regions their most unique fallen trees is part of Alfonso’s work routine. He selects different and unique woods chosen for their size, shape and longevity. A broad mix of trees with many contrasts, differences in tones and knots that come back to life with “VEA.” Woods that tell the story of their life, a life that they make continue indefinitely. They design, highlighting and respecting the identity of each tree, creating unique cuts and pieces.
The production process is artisanal. The cutting, drying and maintenance of the boards of the different woods last from 18 to 24 months until the product is ready to be worked.
The manipulation, cutting and final shape of each piece of wood is done only by craftsmen, using manual methods of the highest precision. In parallel, the author elaborates on the perfect model for each type of wood. The prototypes combine wood as the main element with other materials such as iron and glass.
All Vea pieces are unique, like their grain, and are stamped and numbered. Vea customizes and creates custom furniture so you can contact them in case you want to create your sustainable table.
Social & Environmental commitment
VEA collaborates with Reforesta, an association dedicated to promoting sustainable development, working for the conservation and recovery of forests, and mitigating climate change. VEA’s aim is that its tables can help reforest forests by planting a tree of a native species and sponsoring it for each table sold.
Ecodesigner
Alfonso Cort, Architect, designer and entrepreneur. “VEA” is the result of his passion for nature and its roots together with an artistic vision of the spaces and the elements that occupy them.
From his gaze comes this project of sustainable commitment, from his creativity, the combination of designs and materials, and his coordination of each piece’s execution by the artisans.
