The essence of Fuzl Studio
FUZL STUDIO is committed to responsible design in its DNA. Sustainable products, 100% local production, fairly paid crafts-people, natural pigments and a zero plastic policy are some of the aspects that make Fuzl a unique and sustainable firm.
Its story
FUZL STUDIO pursues the mission of developing modern home furnishings and accessories that make them happy as designers but also contribute to an environmentally and socially fair production system. Their designs are adapted to reconditioning and replacement of parts, not to a future as “skip-fodder”. To learn more about its beginnings, we recommend reading the interview we did with Oliver Theobald, founder of Fuzl.
Production processes
All its production is carried out in the United Kingdom, that is, 100% local, and it’s based on a distribution model characterized by its sales “on-demand” that seeks to minimize production and delivery costs.
For the raw material of their products, they use sustainable materials without treatments with glues or synthetic varnishes. In fact, all the surfaces of their products are hand-finished with natural VOC-free oils and pigments. In this sense, they work closely with the leading specialist Rubio Monocoat, having a custom line of oils and colored pigments that highlight and celebrate the unique beauty of wooden surfaces.
Another of the firm’s distinctiveness is that it has challenged itself to eliminate as much as possible the screws, nuts and the need to use tools for furniture assembly. Fuzl products are extremely easy to assemble thanks to an innovative manual locking clip solution that connects the pieces.
Social and environmental commitment
Everything mentioned is part of its environmental and social responsibility policies. Their 100% recyclable products and natural treatments reaffirm their desire to be the solution and not the problem in a world that needs more conscious and responsible designs.
The fact that they don’t add screws or nuts to assemble their products means the end of those little plastic bags with fixings. In addition, they have suppressed the printed assembly instructions and replaced them with online information.
Finally, they have also considered the design of the packaging of their products and have developed a 100% recyclable model. For it, they only use biodegradable paper tape, origami folding and fixing methods and recycled “cut to size” cardboard. This means that they don’t generate unnecessary waste nor plastic bubble wrap. Only 100% recyclable materials.
Fuzl Studio in first person
We give you an interview with Oliver Theobald, founder of Fuzl, published on the Ekoblog, in which he explains with excellent transparency the characteristics of Fuzl’s business model and what inspires the firm.
